Hi, I'm James, a qualified Maths teacher/tutor/examiner with over 10 years' experience. I specialise in GCSE Maths (higher and foundation) and have a deep, practical knowledge of all the exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, and OCR). I'm patient and encouraging, and genuinely believe that anyone can enjoy Maths given the right conditions!

Teaching Experience
I've taught GCSE Maths for over a decade, covering every topic on the specification from number and algebra through to statistics and trigonometry. I've supported students across the full range of target grades, from those working to secure a pass at grade 4/5 to those pushing for the top grades, 7-9.
In addition, I have extensive experience working with students who have ADHD, ASD, and other special educational needs. I currently work full time in a Further Education provider and guide learners through GCSE and Functional Skills Maths and English on a daily basis.
Tutoring Approach
My approach to tutoring is one that places emphasis on building confidence and understanding. We will naturally find gaps in learning and fill them, and we will talk about exam strategy including how to show working for method marks, how to avoid common careless errors, and how to manage time under pressure. Lessons are structured but relaxed and I would confidently say enjoyable.

James has been an excellent tutor so far and we continue to use him. My daughter’s confidence in maths has increased tremendously. James teaches in a style that my daughter understands and moves at a pace she is comfortable with. Which is an experience she is not always able to get at school. James has been working with our son for several weeks now. Our son has a diagnosis of ASD and finds meeting new people tricky. He also finds maths very hard and really doesn't enjoy the subject at all. James has put him at ease from the outset, helping him to explain what he finds hard and to work collaboratively with him. Our son reports finding the sessions useful and remarkably, for someone who really does not like Maths, he says he quite enjoys the lessons. James has been completely consistent and reliable and is always quick to communicate with us. We have been really glad we asked him to tutor our son!

I was struggling with many topics from the Maths GCSE before I got Mr as a tutor. He carefully explained everything, and helped me with anything that I struggled with. Before I got him as a tutor I was scraping a 6 in Maths, however after just a couple of lessons I started to understand a lot more and became more confident in the subject. I am currently awaiting my GCSE result and I feel like it will be much higher.
