Hi! I'm Will, a private academic tutor, mentor, and writing coach with over eight years experience in higher education. I am channelling my university-level teaching expertise into high-impact private mentoring, bringing the same standards, grading insights, and research methodologies used at Russell Group universities directly to my students. I would be delighted to assist with your tutoring needs, so please message me to discuss your requirements.

I received my PhD from the University of Birmingham's Shakespeare Institute in 2021, and have previously held teaching and research positions at the universities of Birmingham, Warwick, and Nottingham. My work has been published in numerous academic journals, and I have recently published two books with Routledge: the first, an essay collection on which I served as lead editor, was published in 2024, with my first solo-authored book (on the Jacobean dramatist Thomas Middleton and the Thirty Years War) following in 2026.

Alongside my university work, I am an active public historian, and am the resident historian at Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall in Stratford-upon-Avon, for whom I recently curated a new exhibition on the forgotten regional theatres of Shakespeare's England. I work closely with partner museums, appear on podcasts and at theatre history events, and have written for publications including ๐ป๐‘–๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘œ๐‘Ÿ๐‘ฆ ๐‘‡๐‘œ๐‘‘๐‘Ž๐‘ฆ.

Teaching Experience

My academic and mentoring experience spans eight years across three leading Russell Group universities. I have designed and led small-group seminars and delivered lectures and workshops for both undergraduate and master's students, and provided one-on-one pastoral and academic support at all university levels. I have also marked and provided detailed constructive feedback for numerous university essays, giving me an insider's understanding of how marking criteria are applied, and the importance of a strong grounding in core study skills (such as referencing, essay structuring, literature reviews, and clarity/originality of argument) for producing high-quality academic work.

Beyond higher education, my experience in public engagement has involved designing project templates, leading historic tours, curating public exhibitions, and writing for public audiences. This has given me the ability to communicate complex historical concepts and literary theories to diverse audiences in an engaging, high accessible way.

Tutoring Approach

I do not offer standard, rigid tutoring; I provide tailored academic mentoring and coaching. My approach is entirely student-led and outcomes-focused, designed to demystify the unwritten rules of advanced learning outcomes and higher education. Whether working with an A-Level student aiming to master an EPQ or secure their place at university, an undergraduate struggling to structure an essay, or a postgraduate student overwhelmed by research methods and argument formation, I break daunting projects down into clear, manageable steps.
