Hello, I'm Nick, a fully qualified science teacher and tutor with over 20 years of experience helping students achieve their academic goals. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Biology and Information Technology (2:1) and a PGCE in Science Education.

Throughout my career, I have taught in state, grammar, and independent schools, giving me extensive experience working with students of all abilities and backgrounds. I am passionate about making science accessible, engaging, and enjoyable, helping students build both their understanding and confidence.

I specialise in KS3 Science, GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy, as well as A-Level Biology. I have extensive experience teaching AQA, Edexcel, and Edexcel iGCSE specifications and understand exactly what students need to succeed in their examinations.

My goal is simple: to help every student realize their potential and achieve results they can be proud of.

Teaching Experience

I have over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience, working with students aged 11 to 18 across a wide range of educational settings, including state schools, grammar schools, and independent schools.

During my career, I have taught KS3 Science, GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy, as well as A-Level Biology. I have extensive experience preparing students for AQA, Edexcel, and Edexcel iGCSE examinations, helping them develop both strong subject knowledge and effective exam techniques.

I have worked with students across the full ability range, from those who need additional support and confidence-building to high-achieving students aiming for top grades. Many of my students have significantly improved their grades through targeted tuition, structured revision plans, and personalised support.

As both a classroom teacher and private tutor, I understand the challenges students face and know how to adapt my teaching to suit different learning styles and individual needs.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach is centred around building confidence, understanding, and independent learning skills.

I begin by identifying a student's strengths, areas for development, and academic goals. From there, I create personalized lessons that focus on their individual needs, ensuring that every session provides clear value and measurable progress.

I believe that students learn best when they fully understand the "why" behind scientific concepts rather than simply memorizing facts. I break down complex topics into manageable steps, using clear explanations, real-world examples, diagrams, and exam-style questions to reinforce learning.

Alongside subject knowledge, I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, helping students understand how to approach questions, avoid common mistakes, and maximize marks. Regular retrieval practice and past-paper questions are incorporated to build confidence and prepare students effectively for assessments and final exams.

Above all, I aim to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing the confidence needed to succeed. My students often tell me that science becomes much clearer and more enjoyable after working together, which is exactly what I strive to achieve.

Nicholas is a great tutor. He is so friendly and talented in teaching and in the communication with the students. Thank you very much for being such a great tutor. I really appreciate your time and effort in helping my son in GCSE Chemistry . Iam happy with the progress of my son in few weeks since he has started the first lesson with you, covering most of the past papers which is so useful for my son to be ready for the end of year exams. I would highly recommend Nicholas to other students. All the best.

Nick is very understanding and supportive and has helped me in specific areas of both GCSE Physics and Chemistry which I had previously felt difficult to understand. He teaches in a clear, visual way, often using different models/interpretations of the same topic to provide a deeper understanding of the information. He is flexible and adaptable on lesson times and I would definitely recommend him as a tutor!

We can highly recommend Nick as a tutor. Nick is an excellent communicator, who rapidly built a rapport with our daughter, who commented on how lovely it was to have “such a kind and patient teacher, with a sense of humour” Nick acted professionally and respectfully and kept us fully informed of our daughters’ progress. Nick thoroughly deserves a 5 star rating. Thank you Nick!

Mr Nick is a great science tutor. He is very informative, focused and well-organised. His explanations are clear and easily understandable by my daughter about all the different scientific topics. He is always well-prepared and clearly very experienced. His lessons are well-thought and always helpful for my Year 8 student daughter who has been having separated science lessons with Mr Sewel for 3 months now. He is preparing my daughter for separated science GCSE-s and he is clearly an expert in his field. We couldn't be happier with our choice.

Nick instantly put my daughter at ease. He is friendly and encouraging and knows his stuff. Nick has taught only 3 sessions so far and we can already see a difference in my daughters understanding. Always punctual, reliable and accommodating. GCSE Chemistry.

Nick's Science tutoring was exactly what my daughter needed. He pitched his lessons at the right level, focussed on the areas my daughter needed help with and constantly validated her understanding. At the end of each session we had a good chat on progress and he provided targeted homework for the next session. Unfortunately due to the Corona Virus incident, we ended the tutoring early, but we had already seen improvement in the period Nick provided support.
