Matthew was a great tutor! He was very friendly and supportive. He even took the effort to get me a better ukulele from what I had. I took lessons from him during the pandemic and unfortunately couldn’t continue for long due to personal problems but the lessons I did have with him were great fun and I picked up songs pretty fast! He’s patient and gets you to list out your fav songs so that he has an idea about your likes and teaches you accordingly.

Having been messed around slightly by another guitar teacher I made contact with Matthew and am very glad I did so. He's extremely knowledgeable, patient, and good at explaining things. I'd picked up my guitar again three years ago for the first time in many years (no prizes for guessing why!) and started re-teaching myself as best I could. I was making ok progress, but at the beginning of January I realised if I was going to do this seriously I needed to get a good teacher. Using the internet to try and learn is all well and good, but nothing beats actual face to face interaction with someone who is an excellent musician, knows what they're talking about, and can show one on the spot what to do, where one is going wrong, and how to get it right. He challenges me, explains the notation and lets me work it out for myself but also looks at different ways to play chords, move my hands and co-ordinate to help me. Matthew is the best! He's patient when I'm impatient, generally good at explaining stuff, brings along useful material, and shows me the proper techniques for the uke - but best of all: he tailors the lessons and learns tunes I'd like to play even though they're unconventional.

My daughter has absolutely loved Matt and his way of teaching from her first lesson. So much so that she has asked for 2 hour lessons now (she dislikes all kind of study in a typically teenage way)! He is encouraging, plays to strengths and teaches the tunes you want to learn. Which means a lot more work for him outside lessons but a lot more enjoyment for the pupil. My daughter is doing music GCSE and he is teaching her music theory but in a user friendly way as she learns the guitar. Her playing also improved immediately and she seems to be going from strength to strength. Very pleased with our choice.

5/5 At 61years old I thought I would never be able to learn to play an instrument, however, when I received a Ukulele from my daughter as a Christmas present, lessons were required. Matthew travelled to my house and made learning to play both fun and very easy. He is a true professional at what he does. He started at the lowest possible level with me and explained everything I needed to know in order to get to know the instrument. By the end of the first lesson I understood everything he had taught me plus I could play a couple of chords. After four lessons I now feel I have the basics well and truly implanted in my head. My 7 year old son Riley decided he wanted to learn to play the guitar. He received a guitar for his birthday and up until this point he had never even held a guitar before, so I was a little sceptical. We are not a musical family but I wanted to encourage him as much as possible. In my view we couldn't have picked a better tutor for Riley. His progress after just a few lessons has amazed me. Matthew explains things clearly, has lots of patience and is very encouraging. Riley really enjoys his lessons and looks forward to them each week.
