Private Biology and Chemistry Tutor in Olney

I am an experienced science educator with a degree in Biology and Analytical Chemistry. I am passionate about helping students develop confidence in science, overcome challenges, and achieve their academic goals. Having worked with students of varying abilities and backgrounds, I understand that every learner is different and that success comes from finding the right approach for each individual.

I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to make a real difference to students' learning. Seeing a student gain confidence, master a difficult concept, or achieve a result they are proud of is incredibly rewarding. My goal is not only to help students succeed in their exams but also to foster a genuine understanding and appreciation of science that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond.

Teaching Experience

I have over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience across GCSE science and A-Level Biology.

After qualifying as a 16+ teacher, I taught A-Level Biology at a private college before moving into mainstream secondary education, where I taught Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 science. This background has given me a strong understanding of the curriculum, examination requirements and the challenges students face at different stages of their education.

Tutoring Approach

My lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs, whether they are studying GCSE Science or A-Level Biology. I focus on building a strong foundation in key scientific concepts before developing the exam skills and application techniques needed for academic success. Lessons incorporate clear explanations, interactive discussion, targeted practice questions, past paper work, and regular progress checks to identify strengths and address areas for improvement. My aim is to make science engaging, accessible, and memorable, helping students develop both confidence and a genuine understanding of the subject.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes in length, although 90-minute sessions can be arranged for students preparing for examinations or covering more advanced A-Level content.

I hold a degree in Biology and Analytical Chemistry, together with A-Levels in Biology and Chemistry. With over 15 years of experience teaching and tutoring science, I have helped students of all abilities improve their understanding, build confidence, and achieve their academic goals.

My extensive experience combines strong subject knowledge with a patient, supportive, and personalised approach to learning. I am skilled at adapting lessons to different learning styles, breaking down complex topics into manageable steps, and developing effective exam techniques. Whether a student is seeking additional support, aiming to improve their grades, preparing for GCSE or A-Level examinations, or striving for top marks, I provide structured and engaging tuition designed to help them reach their full potential.

Thank you Sarah for all your hard work helping Alasdair to prepare for his A2 exam. You have given him the confidence that he needed and patiently explained concepts he had not previously understood. Lessons have been really well planned and expectations made explicit for him. Hopefully it will help him achieve the grade he needs. Thank you again it's really appreciated.

It was very nice to meet you both last week. As discussed, our sessions will focus on exam technique and key words. James seems a well motivated student and I look forward to helping him develop his understanding of Biology.
