Amba

Amba

I’m Amba, a lawyer, law tutor and mum to a 12-year-old. I have 18 years’ experience in legal practice and currently work in civil litigation. Alongside practice, I have spent the last 7 years tutoring law students online and have supported over 1,500 students across A-Level Law, CILEX, LLB, LLM, LPC, GDL, SQE and other legal courses. I understand how overwhelming legal study can feel, especially when students are expected to understand complex law, apply it accurately and write in a structured academic style. My aim is to make law feel clearer, more manageable and less intimidating, while helping students develop confidence in their own ability. I am approachable, honest, down to earth and supportive, but I am also firm where needed. I care about helping students improve properly, not just getting through one lesson or one piece of work. Many of my students return at different stages of their legal journey because they value having consistent, practical and reliable support.

Teaching Experience

I have 7 years’ tutoring experience and have taught over 1,500 students, many of whom have returned for support across different stages of their studies. I teach students across A-Level Law, CILEX, LLB, LLM, LPC, GDL, SQE and other legal courses. I also have experience teaching A-Level Law directly in schools, so I understand exam boards, assessment styles, teaching methods and the pressure students face when preparing for exams. My legal practice experience spans 18 years across several areas, including family law, property law, private client and civil litigation. I currently work in civil litigation, which allows me to bring practical legal experience into lessons. I use this to help students understand how legal principles operate in real scenarios, rather than learning law in isolation. I am SEN-friendly and adult learner-friendly, with experience supporting students with dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, anxiety, low confidence and those returning to education after time away. I also provide support with essay planning, problem questions, exam technique, legal research, OSCOLA referencing, proofreading, dissertation support and detailed marking feedback.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is practical, structured and assessment-focused. I do not believe in simply throwing information at students and expecting them to memorise it. Instead, I teach students how to understand the law, break down legal issues, apply authority properly and structure their answers clearly. Lessons are tailored to each student’s course, assessment criteria, deadlines and confidence level. I regularly work from students’ own lecture materials, seminar tasks, past papers, marking criteria and draft work, so the support is directly relevant to what they need to achieve. I encourage students to think independently, anticipate the next step in legal analysis and develop stronger legal reasoning. I also offer detailed marking, proofreading, structure planning and grade-analysis support. I have built my own AI-assisted marking report system, which reviews legal writing, structure, clarity, application and likely grade boundaries. Over the last year, students using this feedback have developed their writing significantly, with many consistently achieving 2:1s and Firsts. For ongoing support, I offer package bookings for set numbers of hours, including 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50 and 100 hours. These packages can include additional time depending on the package booked. I also offer A-Level Law term-time packages and instalment options on selected packages.
