Hello, I'm Alex! I'm a highly experienced English tutor, educator and creative writing coach. I specialise in targeted GCSE and A-Level exam preparation for the AQA, Eduqas, OCR, and Edexcel exam boards. I work both privately and as part of the national tutoring programme, an initiative set up to deliver high quality tuition to schools across the UK.

While I focus heavily on exam cohorts, I also offer foundational support for KS2 students, frequently mentoring learners all the way through to their A-Levels.

I graduated from Falmouth University with a First-Class degree in English in 2018. Alongside private tutoring, I am also a widely published poet and creative writing coach.

I've been tutoring and working in educational settings for a decade.

Following graduation and prior to the pandemic, I began working in schools as a teaching assistant and educational support worker in preparation for my teacher training. Ultimately, I decided that tutoring suited me more than classroom teaching during the pandemic, when I started working for the national tutoring program. However, I still work in schools to this day, a practice I find helps keep me abreast of all the latest developments in syllabus delivery and pedagogy.

During my time as a tutor and educator, I've helped close to 200 students improve their grades dramatically, from GCSE to undergraduate level. I know all of the current GCSE, AS and A level exam board syllabuses intimately, and I make sure to keep up to date with the latest teaching innovations and techniques. Over the last ten years, I believe I've developed into one of the top tutors in my field and have gained experience with students from an enormous variety of educational and social backgrounds, not just in the UK, but internationally as well. I am able to offer expert tuition to i ternational students as well, on both Edexcel amd Cambridge IGCSE and A levels.

Due to my practice as a poet, I have also worked with a number of adult students on creative projects, from assembling poetry collections to novel writing, a practice I enjoy immensley.

I see myself as a learning facilitator, encouraging students to think independently and develop the confidence to correct their own mistakes. Students learn far more effectively when they are given the time and space to reach their own conclusions, and when they can identify their own errors, they are much less likely to repeat them.

I aim to make literature accessible, engaging, and enjoyable. Literature should feel relevant and alive, and students learn best when they are genuinely interested in the material.

I currently teach via Google Meet, using a state-of-the-art virtual whiteboard to support interactive lessons. I provide tailored resources where needed, set weekly homework, and track each student’s progress through a personalised learning plan. I also provide detailed feedback after every lesson
