Ana

🇪🇸 ¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? 🇪🇸

I am an experienced, dedicated and fully qualified Modern Foreign Languages teacher (QTS & PGCE) with a passion for helping students build confidence and achieve their full potential in languages.

I offer Spanish tuition from beginner level through to A Level, and French tuition up to Key Stage 3.

⭐ Recent Results ⭐ I am incredibly proud of my students’ achievements. Last summer, all of my GCSE students achieved excellent results: 1 Grade 7, 2 Grade 8s and 2 Grade 9s.

At A Level, my students achieved 1 A*, 1 A and 1 B. Several students have gone on to continue their language studies at university, including one studying Law with Spanish at Exeter University and another studying Politics with Spanish at the University of Manchester.

Teaching Experience

I have been teaching for over 20 years but started tutoring over ten years ago, after having my third child. Tutoring allows me the flexibility for my own family and in turn the opportunity to dedicate my energy to a select number of students. I really love taking my students on their own individual journey to explore and learn the language.

I have taught pupils at primary, GCSE, AS and A'Level from all backgrounds. From grammar schools such as Beaconsfield Grammar, Watford Grammar, St Bernard's Grammar and also those at top UK independent schools: St Augustine’s Priory, St Helen’s, Haberdasher’s Girls’ School, North London Collegiate, John Lyon and The Royal Masonic, are just some examples.

I have also worked in secondary and primary schools in and around London. My last post was in Nower Hill High School in Harrow.

I have experience teaching the following examination boards: AQA, Edexcel, Edexcel iGCSE and Cambridge iGCSE.

Tutoring Approach

In every lesson we use the four key language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing and follow the national curriculum MFL programme of study, very closely. Lessons are varied, fun and focus on areas that the student might need extra work on.

I also focus on exam preparation, I have accumulated a wide variety of resources and past exam papers over the years to prepare my students for their exams. In my lessons we also focus on grammar: covering the present, preterite, imperfect, perfect, future, conditional and the subjunctive. When to use por/para, ser/estar, etc. For vocabulary learning, I use Quizlet to help with this, and regularly set vocabulary learning as homework.

🎓 GCSE SPANISH SUPPORT

📖 Paper 1: Listening (25% of the overall grade) I have a wide range of listening materials and exam-style exercises to help students develop the skills needed for this paper. We focus not only on listening practice but also on exam technique, including how to approach different question types and identify key information effectively.

🗣️ Paper 2: Speaking (25% of the overall grade) For many students, the speaking exam can be the most daunting part of the GCSE course. Through regular conversation practice, role plays and photo card tasks, students develop the confidence, fluency and spontaneity required to perform successfully in the exam.

📚 Paper 3: Reading (25% of the overall grade) Students practise reading and responding to a variety of texts in both English and Spanish. We explore the different question styles that appear in the exam and develop translation skills, comprehension strategies and vocabulary recognition.

✍️ Paper 4: Writing (25% of the overall grade) Lessons focus on writing practice, translation, vocabulary building and key grammar points. We also work on sentence structures, high-level phrases and past paper questions to help students produce accurate, well-developed responses.

🌟 A LEVEL SPANISH SUPPORT 🎤 IRP Support & Oral Exam Preparation (30% of the overall grade) The Individual Research Project (IRP) requires students to research an aspect of Spanish or Latin American culture and present their findings as part of the speaking examination. Although this is a student-led project, I can provide guidance throughout the research process, support with presentation preparation and discussion practice, and help students build confidence in discussing their chosen topic. The oral examination can be one of the most challenging aspects of the A Level course, but with regular practice and targeted preparation, students gain the confidence and skills needed to perform at their full potential.

📖 Listening, Reading & Writing Paper (50% of the overall grade) We cover all core themes, including Aspects of Hispanic Society, Artistic Culture in the Hispanic World, Multiculturalism in Hispanic Society and Political Life in Hispanic Society. Lessons also focus on developing advanced language and translation skills and tackling more complex grammar, including the subjunctive.

🎬 Writing Paper (20% of the overall grade) This component requires students to study literary works and/or films in depth. I have experience tutoring a range of set texts and films, including: • La Casa de Bernarda Alba – Federico García Lorca • El laberinto del fauno – Guillermo del Toro • Volver – Pedro Almodóvar • María, llena eres de gracia – Joshua Marston • El coronel no tiene quien le escriba – Gabriel García Márquez • Como agua para chocolate – Laura Esquivel I support students in developing the analytical, critical and essay-writing skills required to achieve success in this component.

Here are some some further reviews I have received:

5/5 Rating I can recommend Ana wholeheartedly, she has been teaching Spanish to my daughter for about a year now. because of moving schools this was a subject that she wanted to do but hadn`t studied before at her old school , from not knowing the language to now the rate of learning and improvement has been vast. We are all confident she will do well.

5/5 Rating Ana is an excellent teacher with Spanish as her mother tongue. She is very familiar with the curriculum and easily finds out the level of the child`s knowledge and works through systematically to improve. My daughter joined her for GCSE Spanish with a grade 3/4 a few months ago. After attending the weekly classes, she is at grade 8/9, something I never thought was possible within months. Ana is a very pleasant person and will always take time to give homework and lesson feedback. We will strongly recommend Ana.

5/5 Rating Since starting with Ana my daughters written and spoken Spanish has improved dramatically. Anas approach is so encouraging. She gives great thought to her lessons, working closely alongside the main curriculum. My daughter always looks forward to her weekly sessions with Ana and her confidence in Spanish has grown enormously. We can`t recommend Ana highly enough!

Ana is an amazing tutor. When we moved schools, my daughter got a completely new language in the end of Y8, which put her 2 years behind the classmates. Ana helped my daughter not only to catch up with them half a year later, but also became one of the best students in the class and her year group a year later. Eventually, my daughter got A in her GCSE by the end of Y10! I would strongly recommend Ana to anyone, no matter what level you are working at. Thank you, Ana! Your help and support are greatly appreciated! Best wishes

Tutor response
