In every lesson we use the four key language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing and follow the national curriculum MFL programme of study, very closely. Lessons are varied, fun and focus on areas that the student might need extra work on.
I also focus on exam preparation, I have accumulated a wide variety of resources and past exam papers over the years to prepare my students for their exams. In my lessons we also focus on grammar: covering the present, preterite, imperfect, perfect, future, conditional and the subjunctive. When to use por/para, ser/estar, etc. For vocabulary learning, I use Quizlet to help with this, and regularly set vocabulary learning as homework.
🎓 GCSE SPANISH SUPPORT
📖 Paper 1: Listening (25% of the overall grade)
I have a wide range of listening materials and exam-style exercises to help students develop the skills needed for this paper. We focus not only on listening practice but also on exam technique, including how to approach different question types and identify key information effectively.
🗣️ Paper 2: Speaking (25% of the overall grade)
For many students, the speaking exam can be the most daunting part of the GCSE course. Through regular conversation practice, role plays and photo card tasks, students develop the confidence, fluency and spontaneity required to perform successfully in the exam.
📚 Paper 3: Reading (25% of the overall grade)
Students practise reading and responding to a variety of texts in both English and Spanish. We explore the different question styles that appear in the exam and develop translation skills, comprehension strategies and vocabulary recognition.
✍️ Paper 4: Writing (25% of the overall grade)
Lessons focus on writing practice, translation, vocabulary building and key grammar points. We also work on sentence structures, high-level phrases and past paper questions to help students produce accurate, well-developed responses.
🌟 A LEVEL SPANISH SUPPORT
🎤 IRP Support & Oral Exam Preparation (30% of the overall grade)
The Individual Research Project (IRP) requires students to research an aspect of Spanish or Latin American culture and present their findings as part of the speaking examination. Although this is a student-led project, I can provide guidance throughout the research process, support with presentation preparation and discussion practice, and help students build confidence in discussing their chosen topic.
The oral examination can be one of the most challenging aspects of the A Level course, but with regular practice and targeted preparation, students gain the confidence and skills needed to perform at their full potential.
📖 Listening, Reading & Writing Paper (50% of the overall grade)
We cover all core themes, including Aspects of Hispanic Society, Artistic Culture in the Hispanic World, Multiculturalism in Hispanic Society and Political Life in Hispanic Society. Lessons also focus on developing advanced language and translation skills and tackling more complex grammar, including the subjunctive.
🎬 Writing Paper (20% of the overall grade)
This component requires students to study literary works and/or films in depth. I have experience tutoring a range of set texts and films, including:
• La Casa de Bernarda Alba – Federico García Lorca
• El laberinto del fauno – Guillermo del Toro
• Volver – Pedro Almodóvar
• María, llena eres de gracia – Joshua Marston
• El coronel no tiene quien le escriba – Gabriel García Márquez
• Como agua para chocolate – Laura Esquivel
I support students in developing the analytical, critical and essay-writing skills required to achieve success in this component.

5/5 Rating
I can recommend Ana wholeheartedly, she has been teaching Spanish to my daughter for about a year now. because of moving schools this was a subject that she wanted to do but hadn`t studied before at her old school , from not knowing the language to now the rate of learning and improvement has been vast. We are all confident she will do well.

Ana is an excellent teacher with Spanish as her mother tongue. She is very familiar with the curriculum and easily finds out the level of the child`s knowledge and works through systematically to improve. My daughter joined her for GCSE Spanish with a grade 3/4 a few months ago. After attending the weekly classes, she is at grade 8/9, something I never thought was possible within months. Ana is a very pleasant person and will always take time to give homework and lesson feedback. We will strongly recommend Ana.
