Teaching Experience
I have taught German and English for many years, and have been Head of German and Head of Modern Foreign Languages for most of that time. I am adept at inspiring a love of both languages in pupils and students of all ages, and I am familiar with the challenges of learning German and English, including grammar, cultural studies and topical issues. I have achieved excellent results, and many of my students have chosen to study German and English at tertiary level. More recently, I have been working with individuals, providing one-to-one tuition. I enjoy helping them to achieve more in these sessions than they ever could in a classroom, simply by building their confidence, removing obstacles and convincing them that they can succeed.
Tutoring Approach
I prefer tutoring from home, simply as I have my multifarious resources to hand and can accommodate more students -Teams or Zoom works very well online for English GCSE and A level, plus German GCSE and A Level as well as casual language learning. I tailor resources to support individual learning styles and play to their strenghths, with translation tasks, reading comprehensions, general conversation, and essay planning as foci. Happy to liaise as to when and how! I`ve also taught undergraduate modules via zoom, which worked very well screen sharing and with breakout rooms.

Emma is an extremely kind, knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher. My daughter only started lessons with Emma during year 11 and at the time she had very little confidence in her language skills. However, working with Emma restored both her confidence and her interest in the German language. My daughter enjoyed her lessons and it was lovely to see how confident and relaxed she was throughout her GCSE German exams.
