Teaching Experience

School students and exams:

Claire has tutored students in a wide range of situations - for example, she has provided additional lessons for some students for three years prior to their GCSEs as well seeing students just for a few sessions of intensive revision before exams. She prepares students for exams from the 11+ to A-Levels and several for the ELAT (for Cambridge University).

She has also provided gifted children with additional lessons in the run up to A-Levels, as well as assisting them in preparation for interviews at top universities.

English as a Foreign/ Second Language:

Claire first taught EFL in 2002, while still at university and she is now CELTA qualified. She has taught EFL to children as young as 6 as well as adults and to students with a wide variety of mother tongues (Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, French, German, Portuguese, Arabic).

Claire now teaches a number of businessmen and lawyers who wish to improve their business and/or legal English (due to her previous experience working in the City as a lawyer). These lessons are both private as well as those provided by employers.

Tutoring Approach

Claire teaches students throughout the day and evening and since she is a full-time tutor, she is very flexible. In the past, she has taught students at range of times - from 7-8am for a business executive before work and 9-10:30pm for a pair of students preparing for their A-Level examinations. First Tutors

We had a first conversation with Claire and she was definitely very knowledgeable about the English requirements for 11+ entrance exams and had good ideas on how to improve our daughter readiness. Unfortunately we had some calendar mis communication and therefore we won’t be able to progress with the tutoring

Claire is helping our son for iGCSE’s. She is undoubtedly very experienced in preparing for exams. She knows the curriculum well and equips him with relevant materials and practical methods for each paper type. He enjoys the lessons as she has a positive approach, builds on his strengths and gives him confidence. Claire also gives him homework between lessons to maximize the learning experience. After a couple of lessons, he’s gained confidence and motivation. I strongly recommend Claire.

Claire is an experienced English tutor and helped my son preparing for his English literature GCSE. Compared to the predicted grade of 7 by his shcool the final one is 2 mark below 9. I would recommend her to everyone!

First Tutors

Because my daughter had ben concentrating on other subjects, she had let her English slide, and this led to some alarming grades in her mocks. With only a few weeks left before her GCSEs, Claire took her on and she made dramatic improvements. It is plain that Claire has a passionate commitment to helping her pupils to succeed.
