Finn

I'm Finn - a full-time Economics tutor for GCSE, A Level and IB students in the UK and internationally. I am also an examiner for GCSE and A Level Economics across multiple boards.

After graduating with a First in Economics, I went to Bangkok to work for the United Nations as a specialist on Sustainable Development and the Space economy. Oddly enough, it was there that I noticed how much clarity of thinking and the ability to communicate it separated the people who had real impact from those who didn't. So when I eventually came back to the UK, I made a full-time job out of helping students build this same skillset in my specialist subject, Economics.

My students consistently progress faster and with more confidence than they first expected. That's because we work strategically on both content and exam technique from the start, rather than grinding through topics without a clear objective. So, if you have a good attitude, a strong work ethic and a real goal to improve, I'd love to hear from you.

Teaching Experience

I have over 1500 hours of experience of teaching over 5+ years. I have students across the globe, and have taught in person in several countries, including China, Nepal, and Thailand.

Tutoring Approach

My lessons are highly interactive and, dare I say it, fun. The Venn diagram of students who don't care about Economics and students who underperform is nearly a circle, so building confidence and enjoyment is the consistent objective of each lesson. The results tend to follow from there.

My time at the UN involved distilling complex economic policy into something senior policymakers could quickly understand and act on. Securing every AO3 and AO4 mark demands a very similar clarity - that's the standard you will work toward.

Exam technique can be genuinely shocking in how much it moves a grade. I've had numerous students who arrived praying for a C that then opened their results to find an A, or occasionally even better. Even at the end of Year 13, the gaps tend to be the same ones repeated: a command word not properly addressed, the right answer lost inside a confused structure. I find them quickly and close them.

My students span diverse backgrounds, including several at top UK boarding schools and international schools across China, the UAE and Qatar. A significant number are non-native English speakers, something I'm particularly well-placed to handle having worked and taught across Asia from a young age. Language barriers are bridged, cultural context is understood, and real-world examples actually land.

Included as standard when working with me:

• A weekly bitesize summary of key real-world news relevant to your exams, on top of exhaustive revision materials, notes and model essay answers.

• Human-made past paper questions for when the real ones run out

• Targeted exam technique work to take home (optional - but encouraged)

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to hesitate to give me a message. I aim to reply to all queries within 1-2 hours.

First Tutors

Finn is an excellent economics tutor who I’d highly recommend. He’s incredibly friendly and approachable, which makes every session relaxed and enjoyable. He always comes well prepared with structured lessons and tailored resources, so the time is used really effectively. His knowledge of economics is outstanding and he explains complex ideas clearly and simply.

First Tutors

Finn has honestly been one of the best tutors I’ve had. As an international student, I really benefit from him being able to explain things clearly, really improve my essay technique, and helps me understand how to write strong evaluation points and thinking. Some parts of IB Economics like paper 3 calculations, diagrams, and connecting theory to real-world examples were quite tough at first, but he has helped everything click.

First Tutors

Finn has been a lifesaver for my son who is studying A Level Economics. James' understanding and confidence in difficult topics had already skyrocketed thanks to Finn's empathetic approach. Finn is particularly enthusiastic on building solid exam technique, particularly for essays, where my son had previously struggled, and this had immediate results. We've gone from expecting James to receive an E in his recent exams to hoping he hits a B or even an A.
