My name is Brian, I have 14+ years of tutoring Maths at various levels, ranging from Primary KS2 to Degree Level.
I had a successful career as a mathematician writing the software that planned FreeView.
As a hobby I write software that uses Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms to help solve difficult science and engineering optimisation problems. The software can also act as a controller for other types of projects / problems.
After I left that role 11 years ago I became a private maths tutor, teaching Primary, Secondary, A-Level and some Degree-level maths.
I plan lessons around individual's needs, tracking and responding to work appropriately. By the end of Primary School, students have grapsed the neccessary abstract mathematics. I focus on Language and Structural Layout as exam techniques to link mathematical ideas with learning.
Brian has been tutoring my year 6 daughter for the last 5 months in preparation for her SATS, and in that time she has gone from being at a "fail" rate on her mock exams to now being only a few marks off "greater depth". I couldn't recommend Brian enough, we didn't think the improvement made was possible given where we were and my daughter's confidence has grown signifcantly.
We have used Brian twice now, once for my eldest 3 years ago and currently for my youngest who is in YR 10. He is a great tutor, kind and approachable. He is very knowledgeable and always explains anything my youngest isn’t sure of step but step allowing him time to understand it properly. Would 100 percent recommend him

Brian has been a brilliant tutor for our daughter over the course of Year 11 in preparation for her GCSE. His professionalism and passion for Maths together with his patience and encouragement have enabled her to enjoy the subject more and to approach the exams with greater confidence.
Due to Covid my daughter was far behind where she should have been. In a relatively short period of time Brian has filled in her missing knowledge and practiced questions to the point where we are now very confident that she will pass her gcses and pass well. Brian’s coaching and tutoring has made all the difference. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Brian to anyone one else.
We are so pleased we have found Brian to help our son Harvey, he has always struggled to understand and get motivated with maths and after just a few lessons Brian has helped Harvey to understand and enjoy this subject He knows exactly what Harvey is capable of and they are both working well together to help him to achieve and move forward. Harvey enjoys his lessons and has said ‘Brian is a great teacher and maths is now beginning to make sense’. We are looking forward to seeing his progress which I’m sure will come on leaps and bounds now that we have Brian’s help.
Brian did his first tutor session yesterday with our granddaughter. He has a warm manner and was straight in to making our granddaughter comfortable with him. In questioning her afterwards she said she liked Brian and thought she would learn a lot from him.

I selected Brian to Tutor my son Oliver in GCSE Maths to help and further his understanding of the subject in preparation for his future examinations. Brian is an absolutely brilliant tutor who is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, we are very pleased indeed that we have found found such a nice, pleasant and knowledgeable man who we all enjoy his tutoring visits to our house. I would highly recommend Brian as a first rate tutor and am extremely grateful to him for such excellent tuition that my son Oliver is greatly enjoying and benefiting from.

Brian has been an excellent tutor in every respect; extremely well prepared, dedicated and flexible. My son struck up an excellent working relationship with him and I couldn't rate him more highly. We have recommended him to several friends and would happily do so again. My son gained an A/7 at GCSE, something he could not have done without Brian's individually tailored work schemes. Brian accepted to teach but then decided not to teach which is unprofessional but at the same time he also contacted First tutors to clarify his situation so that I could apply for a replacement tutor. I cannot comment on his teaching skill because I have not seen him tutoring my son even for a single session

As I am used to only teaching Pure Maths, it was an oversight and human error on my part that I did not clarify this. The client wanted tuition in Further Maths, which I can provide (given that it is Pure Maths), however what was not clarified was that Statistics modules were also required. At that time I was not in a position to offer this and did everything I could to help the client secure another tutor at no extra cost to them. From my correspondence with First Tutors on this matter, that was something they were happy to do, and rightly so. I think it a bit harsh to call my decision not to teach unprofessional, I believe, given the oversight and human error, it was the correct thing to do.
Brian is very dedicated always on time, I learned a lot from him and he helped me through my A2 exams. I will strongly recommend him to any one.
