Tutor Profile

Ben

Private Geography and History Tutor in Bristol

Hello! I'm Ben, a secondary school teacher from Bristol, currently teaching Key Stage 3 and 4. Geography is my specialism, but I also have a first-class degree in history and really enjoy teaching both subjects.

I believe that everyone is capable of success and I understand how personalised support can be the key to get there. Throughout my time as a student, I sometimes struggled to fully grasp challenging concepts, so I know how frustrating it can be when something doesn't click. I worked hard to overcome these difficulties and that's something which I now help my students to do too.

I pledge to assist your child with a personalised approach, ensuring I diagnose what they are struggling with most, and build a plan to address it. Whatever the problem is, whether it's remembering case studies or structuring essays, I will work through whatever area marks are being lost. I have a wide range of experience across geography and history and I can offer tuition in either subject across Key Stage 3, GCSE, in addition to A-level geography.

I have a wealth of experience of the world beyond the classroom. I have travelled to over 50 countries, including running through the Sahara Desert. I am always looking for ways to bring geography and history to life and my experience of the wider world helps me to make studying them a lot more exciting!

I want your child to leave a lesson not just knowing more, but feeling more confident about tackling the subject themselves.

Teaching Experience

I am a qualified teacher, currently teaching Key Stage 3 and 4. My specialism is geography, but I also teach plenty of history.

I have taught from Year 7-13, with plenty of experience teaching GCSE geography.

I have experience of teaching learners with a range of abilities, assisting students at the top of the class to stretch themselves further, as well as helping students in lower sets to significantly improve. This has allowed me to better understand how different people learn and how I can adapt my teaching to help them make progress.

Tutoring Approach

No two students will have the same experience with me since everyone has a different starting point and needs different assistance. Tutoring has to be personal and flexible. It is my job to help your child progress, so I will begin by finding out what they struggle with most, before working with them to build a plan to overcome it. I will work with them to break down complicated concepts and help them develop learning strategies that work for them.

I will engage them in the learning, making sure that I am not lecturing at them, but including them in the process of self-development. I will be warm and friendly, and bring the subject to life using experience of the world beyond the classroom.

Ultimately, my aim is for a student to become less reliant on me over time. I want them to leave lessons not only knowing more, but feeling more confident in their ability to tackle the subject independently.
