I’m a qualified (PGCE) secondary and A-level English teacher and internationally award-winning writer with a (1:1) Master’s in Writing from Warwick University and a BA in English from Liverpool University. I’m also experienced in teaching creative writing to adults of all ages — in person and online.
Alongside tutoring, I’m currently editing my debut novel which was awarded a Northern Debut Award by New Writing North and won the Stockholm Writers Festival Prize. Over the past eight years as a professional writer I’ve written and designed content for clients including Cambridge University and the Department for Education (DfE) with whom I worked closely to create solutions to innovate and digitise lesson and curriculum planning across UK secondary schools.
I specialise in secondary and A-level English tuition, as well as creative writing. My ultimate goal is to help students not only to think like the marker, but the writer. As a writer, attention to detail is everything — the same applies to any student of literature. Both writing and reading are acts of listening. I enjoy, more than anything, pulling apart a text with my students and listening together to unveil the worlds of detail contained within.
I believe one-to-one tuition plays a vital role, away from the noise of the classroom, in providing students the opportunity to re-engage with literary texts in fresh and imaginative ways, tailored to their unique needs and interests, that will not only deepen their understanding but help them to achieve exam papers that stand out.
I can also offer a range of academic support to undergraduates of literature and writing, as well as wider mentorship to any writer seeking support, including insights into how the publishing industry works (for example, routes into publication and how to pitch your book).
Outside of teaching and writing, I’m a passionate musician and cinephile. Do get in touch with any questions you might have, I’d be delighted to hear from you.
