Tutor Profile

Lindsey

Private Music and Composition Tutor in Watford

I have been a Teacher of Music and Choral Lead at North London Collegiate School since 2017 and continue to enjoy private tutoring alongside my classroom teaching. I have high expectations of my tutees and support them to achieve their goals through engaging explanations, constructive feedback and clear targets to work on between lessons.

Teaching Experience

I studied for my BMus degree at King's College London and the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with a First Class degree, before completing a PGCE in Secondary Music Teaching at the UCL Institute of Education. After my Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) year at The Tiffin Girls' School, I joined North London Collegiate School, where I continue to teach KS3 through to A-Level/IB, as well as leading the school's choral programme and supervising multiple EPQs of students in the Sixth Form.

Whilst being employed as a secondary school teacher at NLCS, I also work frequently with primary school children as a leader of choral outreach events and as a freelance workshop facilitator with organisations such as Ark Music and Horizon Voices. My current private tutee age range is from 6 years through to adult learners.

Tutoring Approach

My own educational journey has given me experience of a wide range of schools and learning environments. I attended my local state comprehensive school before going on to study at King's College London. I then trained as a teacher in state schools in Wembley and Camden, taught in a grammar school, and now work in an independent school. This breadth of experience enables me to relate to students from diverse backgrounds and tailor my teaching to each individual's needs, aspirations and learning style.

Whether you're preparing for GCSE or A Level Music, working towards an ABRSM examination, refining an EPQ in Music, or simply looking to build confidence and enjoyment in music, I aim to create lessons that are supportive, challenging and enjoyable, helping every student to reach their full potential.

Lindsey is an excellent tutor who provides a strong focus on the fundamentals, helping to build solid understanding and confidence from the basics upward. She is flexible and accommodating, making lessons easy to fit around our schedule, and she approaches teaching with genuine care and kindness. This creates a very supportive and encouraging learning environment where our daughter feels comfortable and motivated — which has made a huge difference. We are very pleased with Lindsey’s support and the positive impact she has had, and we strongly recommend her.

Fantastic tutor for GCSE music. Has really helped my daughter with the subject and helping to prepare her for her GCSE. My daughter is delighted we found Lindsey!

Tutor response

Thank you Jo! Sophie has been a fantastic student. Her efforts during and in between our online lessons have led to two completed compositions, leaving us extra time now for some Listening Paper revision. I’ll be wishing her all the luck for her final summer exams!

Lindsey has been a fantastic Piano and Singing tutor for our girls for over six years now. In that time she has taken one of them from grade 1 to 5 in Piano and the other to grade 2 in Piano and 3 in Singing. All of these are grades were Merits or Distinctions. She has been instrumental in getting one of the girls into the Royal Opera House youth choir and further into a MainStage production at the opera house. She is patient, kind and makes lessons engaging for both a 17 year old and an 11 year old, that is not easy. Both of our daughters look forward to their lessons and can’t wait to learn new music and performing skills with Lindsey.

Tutor response

Thank you for your review, Gaurav! The girls have both done so well to reach their many milestones and to keep up the momentum during and after the pandemic. I look forward to seeing them again in September to start their new pieces.

Tutor response

Thank you very much Lily for your feedback. I thoroughly enjoyed helping your son Jeffrey. He worked incredibly hard during (and betwen) our online lessons and was fully deserving of that 9 in GCSE Music! All the best to you both.
