Private Economics Tutor in Reading

Specialist Economics Tutor | 10+ Years' Experience | 70+ Students Tutored Across Reading, Marlow, Henley, Wokingham & Maidenhead | Edexcel, AQA & OCR

I graduated from the University of Reading in 2009 with a 2:1 in Economics, and have been tutoring the subject for over ten years.

Starting with a single student, I have since taught more than 70 students (sourced through various tutoring platforms) across the Berkshire and Oxford areas.

Rather than spreading myself across several subjects, I focus exclusively on Economics. This means I stay genuinely up to date with syllabus changes and exam trends, and I bring a depth of subject knowledge that comes from teaching the same material, in different ways, to a huge range of students over a decade.

I've taught across the Edexcel, OCR and AQA specifications, and my feedback reflects consistently strong results.

Who I work with Students come to me with a wide range of needs, including:

  • Aiming for those final few marks to secure a top grade
  • Struggling with the basic concepts and needing more intensive support
  • Generally confident but wanting to sharpen up specific topics
  • Understanding the content but losing marks through poor exam technique
  • Facing a re-sit and needing to rebuild confidence as well as knowledge

Whatever the starting point, I tailor each session to the individual, working through past papers, building model answers and focusing on exactly where the marks are won and lost. I've never worked with a student I haven't been able to help move forward.

Teaching Experience

I've been teaching Economics for over ten years, working with students at every stage of their journey, from navigating their first GCSE papers to tackling university-level theory. Whether you're finding the subject daunting or simply want to push for the best possible grade, I'll meet you where you are and help you get to where you want to be.

Over the years, I've worked with students from a wide range of backgrounds and learning styles, so I'm used to adapting how I explain things until they genuinely click. Sessions are focused but relaxed, and I always make time to answer every question, no matter how basic it might feel.

Tutoring Approach

I believe it is Important to get to know the student first and build a rapport.

Lessons are guided by the student and can cover whichever topics they need help with. The lessons are not like school, where there is a fixed agenda; we can jump about and cover any topic, and as exams get closer, past papers are a valuable area to focus on. I am flexible on times and can always fit in a last-minute lesson.

I try to avoid a teacher-student relationship, but instead encourage students to think of me as a peer so they are comfortable asking whatever questions they have.

Experienced with a range of ages and abilities, I have been tutoring Economics across AQA, OCR and Edexcel exam boards for over two years.

For me there is no difference between online and in-person; in a 1:1 setting, the experience is identical and more importantly, the student finds it just as effective.

All of my students have gone on to exceed their predicted grades.

My daughter likes the fact that they are student ied and she can ask about any topic that needs addressing. Also Andrew explains difficult and theoretical concepts clearly so that she understands them and makes the subject interesting by using real world examples.

Tutor response

Very kind feedback Paul - thank you!

Andrew has tutored my daughter for her Economics A Level. Andrew is flexible in his approach, seeking to improve on her weak points in the subject. In short, my daughter and I believe Andrew has supported her to achieve an improved A Level grade.

Andrew was an excellent teacher. He gave me the confidence I needed to realise I knew more than I thought. He was patient and kind, and extremely knowledgeable in his subject. I am now on target to get my A" in Economics, thank you so much Andrew, I really appreciate your time.

Tutor response

Thank you so much Cian! Appreciate the kind words but as you say you knew it already, just needed the confidence. You know where I am if you need me!
