Tutor Profile

Naz

Private Maths and Further Maths Tutor in London

I’m Naz, a friendly and experienced Maths tutor with a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Warwick and a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics.

I previously worked as a secondary school Maths teacher and now Head of Department. I enjoy helping students make sense of topics they may previously have found difficult, become more confident in their own ability and achieve the grades needed for their next step.

I tutor GCSE Mathematics, A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Whether a student needs help rebuilding their foundations, keeping up with their course or preparing for an important examination, I provide patient, focused and individually tailored support.

Teaching Experience

I have more than a decade of experience teaching and tutoring Mathematics.

I began my career as a secondary school Maths teacher and later became a Head of Department. This gave me extensive experience teaching students with a wide range of starting points, confidence levels and academic goals. I understand the curriculum, common misconceptions and the examination skills students need to demonstrate under timed conditions. I am also an Edexcel exam marker for A-Level Mathematics.

I have supported students with ongoing schoolwork, targeted intervention, examination preparation and applications for their next stage of education. My students have improved their confidence and grades, including progressing to competitive university courses.

My experience includes:

GCSE Mathematics

A-level Mathematics

Further Mathematics

Exam preparation and revision planning

Identifying and addressing gaps in understanding

Developing confidence, fluency and problem-solving skills

Supporting students aiming both to secure a pass and to achieve the highest grades

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring is structured, supportive and adapted to the individual student.

I begin by understanding the student’s current position, their goals and the areas they find most challenging. From there, I identify the topics and skills that will make the greatest difference and build lessons around clear explanation, guided practice and carefully selected questions.

I do not simply show students how to complete one particular question. I help them understand the underlying mathematics, recognise similar problems and explain the reasoning behind their answers. This allows them to become more independent and apply what they have learned when the wording or context changes.

Lessons normally combine:

Clear explanation of key ideas

Worked examples

Questions completed together

Independent exam-style practice

Feedback on technique and presentation

Identification of what to work on next

I create a relaxed environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, while still maintaining high expectations. Near examinations, I place greater emphasis on past-paper questions, time management, interpreting mark schemes and converting mathematical knowledge into marks.

Parents can also receive clear updates on what we have covered, what has gone well and which areas need further work.

First Tutors

Naz has been helping my daughter with her A'level Maths. She has made good progress with his guidance. He communicates very well with students and parents, providing detailed feedback on progress. Would highly recommend.

First Tutors

My daughter is struggling with her A-level maths regardless how hard she tried. I am so glad that I found Naz at First Tutors. Very often, my daughter happily told me that Naz has taught and guided her with new techniques to solve some tricky questions. This has inspired her to stay motivated when learning maths at school. Overall, Naz is a very patient tutor and he communicates very well with parents.

First Tutors

My son started A level maths tuition a month ago to catch up on topics that he found difficult. He is happy with how the things are clearly explained and easy to understand. The online whiteboard that Naresh uses during lessons makes explaining and illustrating concepts easy as well as helps communicating methods and areas for improvement. After having 8 lessons my son feels more confident and well prepared for exams.

First Tutors

Naz has started helping my son with his maths A-level. His tutoring style is calm & supportive. He is always asking my son if he understands what the question requires of him. Naz also suggests alternative ways in which he can can answer certain questions. My son hopes to benefit from Naz's help & guidance throughout the year.

First Tutors

Naresh tutored my son for his A level maths exam and we thought he was excellent. The tutoring was virtual, via Skype and a live board, rather than face to face, which worked well, and Naresh was very helpful in assisting my son in the areas he was struggling with. My son felt so much more confident and better prepared for his exam and we would highly recommend Naresh as a tutor.

Thank you - I wish him all the best with the exams and beyond in the future
