Tutor Profile

Kirstie

Private History and Sociology Tutor in Aylesbury

Hello! I’m Kirstie, a qualified secondary school teacher and GCSE examiner with several years of experience teaching and supporting students of all abilities. I have a real passion for helping young people build confidence, develop effective study skills and achieve their academic goals.

As a member of the Historical Association, I am committed to keeping my subject knowledge and teaching practice up to date, ensuring my students benefit from engaging, evidence-informed teaching and the latest developments in history education.

I specialise in creating a calm, supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Whether your child needs help catching up, preparing for GCSE exams, improving essay writing or simply gaining confidence in a subject, I tailor every lesson to their individual needs.

As a full-time teacher, I understand the demands of the current curriculum and the pressures students face. My aim is to make learning enjoyable while helping students reach their full potential.

Teaching Experience

I am a qualified secondary school teacher with 8 years of experience teaching KS3 and GCSE History, A Level History and GCSE Sociology. I have also taught KS3 Religious Studies.

I also work as a GCSE examiner, giving me valuable insight into how exam papers are marked, the common mistakes students make and what is needed to achieve the highest marks. This enables me to provide targeted feedback, improve exam technique and help students maximise their performance.

Alongside classroom teaching, I have held leadership responsibilities including Curriculum Lead for Sociology and Head of Year, giving me extensive experience supporting students both academically and pastorally.

I have worked with students across a wide range of abilities, including those requiring additional support due to SEN, helping them improve their confidence, revision techniques and exam performance. I have particular strengths in supporting students who have ADHD, anxiety and low confidence.

I am experienced in preparing students for GCSE and A Level examinations, improving essay writing, analysing sources and developing effective exam strategies.

My classroom experience means I understand current exam specifications, marking criteria and the skills students need to succeed.

Tutoring Approach

Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to suit their individual learning style, strengths and areas for development.

My lessons are engaging, structured and supportive, with clear explanations, plenty of opportunities to ask questions and regular practice to build confidence.

As a GCSE examiner, I combine strong subject knowledge with effective exam technique, ensuring students not only understand the content but also know how to apply their knowledge to achieve structure and answer the questions, achieving the highest possible marks in examinations.

I believe tutoring should be a positive experience where students feel encouraged, motivated and challenged at the right level. Whether we’re preparing for exams, improving grades or building confidence from the ground up, I work closely with both students and parents to ensure progress is clearly tracked and goals are achieved.

Kirstie has been tutoring my daughter for the past 3 weeks. My daughter has really enjoyed the sessions. She is knowledgeable, and explains tasks really well, putting her at ease in a calm manor. It's early days but would definitely recommend Kirstie at this stage.

Kirstie has been amazing with my daughter . She has gone out of her way to help, emailing work over in between sessions and Jessicas' s confidence in History is much higher now. I would definitely recommend her.
