After taking my degree in physics I worked in industry for a few years. That was interesting but unsatisfying so I took a PGCE and started teaching, finding my real vocation. My first teaching post was in the West Midlands and then I moved to Enfield to take a Head of Physics position. Later I became Head of Science in Havering and then at a school in Basingstoke. I am retired from teaching. Currently, I am an examiner and Team Leader for a number of GCSE papers as well as covering international papers. As a Team Leader I supervise a team of markers as well as mentoring new markers. I have been tutoring for over 20 years.

I have taught physics, chemistry, biology and combined science to GCSE level and physics to A-level.

Tutoring sessions need to be fun. Everything else follows from that. During my sessions I feed in examples which help to put the work into context. Many of these are quite quirky, which adds to the fun. For example; did you know that people who live in igloos light fires to keep warm but the igloo does not melt? During my years of tutoring I have come across a vast range of abilities and levels of commitment and have developed techniques to help in all situations. As an examiner I can recognise common mistakes which many candidates make and I can make a significant difference to examination technique. I can advise on revision techniques, too. Most of my tutoring is online but I can tutor face to face at my home.
