Shannon

Private Maths and Psychology Tutor in Surbiton

Hi! I’m Shannon, a First Class Psychology graduate from The University of Nottingham with a passion for helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals. I achieved an A* in A Level Psychology, alongside a Grade 8 (A*) in GCSE Maths and a Grade 7 (A) in GCSE Further Maths.

Psychology is my primary area of expertise, and I hope to pursue a career in forensic psychology. I love helping students connect psychological theories to real-life examples, making complex ideas engaging, memorable, and easier to understand. Alongside Psychology, I also enjoy teaching GCSE Maths, where I focus on building strong problem-solving skills and confidence.

I believe every student learns differently, so I aim to create supportive, encouraging lessons that are tailored to individual learning styles while developing both subject knowledge and effective exam skills.

Teaching Experience

I have around five years of tutoring experience, working with students of different ages and abilities in both Psychology and GCSE Maths. My experience includes tutoring through a professional tuition company as well as delivering private lessons, allowing me to develop a flexible teaching style that adapts to each student's needs.

For Psychology, I teach GCSE, AS, A Level, and undergraduate students, supporting them with understanding key theories, applying research, improving essay writing, and developing effective exam techniques. For GCSE Maths, I help students strengthen their understanding of core topics, tackle challenging questions with confidence, and prepare successfully for exams.

Working with a wide range of learners has taught me how to explain difficult concepts clearly, identify knowledge gaps, and tailor lessons to help every student make meaningful progress.

Tutoring Approach

Every lesson is personalised to suit the student's goals, current ability, and preferred way of learning. Whether we're covering new content, revising difficult topics, or preparing for exams, I adapt my teaching to ensure lessons are engaging, supportive, and productive.

In Psychology, I focus on making theories meaningful by relating them to real-world examples while developing the analytical and essay-writing skills needed for top grades. In Maths, I break complex problems into manageable steps, helping students build a solid understanding before progressing to more challenging questions.

Above all, I aim to create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing in confidence. My goal is not only to improve grades but also to help students become more independent, resilient learners who feel capable of achieving their full potential.
