Tutor Profile

My name is Louise and I have been tutoring for 14 years. As an academic lawyer, history teacher and examiner, I bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to my students. I wasn't always a tutor, and entered teaching when my children were younger. I taught at an independent girls school before I set up my own tutoring business. Before that, I was a project manager in both corporate and charity sectors. When not tutoring, I sit a presiding justice in the family courts. When not working at all, I like to travel widely, as much of my family live internationally and I also have a long list of places I still want to explore! I currently live with my cat in a beautiful part of the country on the edge of the Peak District.

Teaching Experience

I am a senior examiner in history at both A'level and GCSE. This includes; moderating coursework, marking A'level, AS level and GCSE papers and also sitting on the appeals panel. I have been an examiner for 16 years. I also taught history in an independent school (Tudor Hall) for three years before I starting tutoring. I have been supporting students with history for over 14 years. They all achieve excellent results, do look at my reviews to see what they say. I was also an associate lecturer in law for the Open University their LLB degree programme between 2016 and 2025. This involved marking and assessing unto 80 students taking a variety of subjects, contract, tort and family law. This combination of law and history qualifications has meant that I achieve significant results for my politics and law students and I have been tutoring law and politics for fourteen years.

Tutoring Approach

I support students from both ends of the scale, from those considered 'able and gifted' where they are not being stretched in their current learning environment or are underperforming, to students who have been labeled 'average'. In my experience, no student is 'average' and every student has the ability to achieve success, they just require the confidence and skills to unlock it. That is where I come in. I also have extensive experience supporting neurodivergent students all the way through GCSE, A'levels and degree level. My own son has ADHD and dyslexia and I homeschooled him from the age of 14 and he is about to graduate in English Lit and philosophy from a US university. I tutor students online from all over the world and I find that this works well, as there is no travel and students are in a safe comfortable environment which is conductive to the learning process. I use a dedicated zoom platform which means we can both see each other but also work collaboratively. My focus is on exam skills and what is required to obtain the top levels in public exams, whether that is GCSE, A'level or beyond.

Based on Madeline's feedback, she is finding your sessions so far very helpful. She is eager to learn from your expertise as an examiner and know how her writing will be scrutinized on the exam. As her parent, I feel more sessions ahead, even with additional offline practice writings from you to be assessed will definitely help her grasp what the board exams require. Thank you for the reading suggestion over the break as well.

Louise has been a wonderful tutor. My daughter required extra support in refining her essay style and working towards a better grade. She will be sitting her A level this year and has grown in confidence with Louise’s guidance. I feel she will definitely reach her full potential. We are both very grateful for the professional and accomplished way Louise has provided her lessons. I would definitely recommend Louise , she has been fantastic throughout the last year. Thank you from both of us

My son always enjoyed History but was getting grade 6 not knowing where he was loosing marks. He started with Louise at the beginning of year 11 in September and within a span of two months in November he had his mocks where he got grade 8. And again in another 2/3 months, around Feb/March they had another exam before GCSE where he was 1 mark off full marks. Can't thank Louise enough for this tremendous improvement! Amazing teaching!
